We are seven days away from getting our hands on Mario Kart 8, one of the most highly anticipated games of this year. As each day seems to slow down to a crawl as we get closer and closer to May 30, let’s take a moment to reflect on what the game has to offer!

Mario Kart 8 is the first Mario Kart game to be released both digitally and in physical form at launch. With Mario Kart 7, the game only launched as a retail product while a digital version was released a year or two later. Fans who anticipated Mario Kart 7 didn’t have to pick between the two.
A lot of us are going to go with a retail copy of the game. The gorgeous box art is definitely something to keep around and physical copies are what most of us are used to. Having the game on the disc also ensures that you have the game forever, even when the Wii U is gone and the online store is no longer available.
A digital version of Mario Kart 8 has its advantages too. Mario Kart is a popular multiplayer game, so it will be more than useful to have the game on the Wii U at all times, even when you have another disc inside. You can’t lose the game, and you can always re-download it from the eShop whenever you want. And for those fans that really can’t wait, the game is being released digitally at 12:00 AM EDT, so those of you west of the Eastern Time Zone will be able to play Thursday night! This is the case for North America, at least.
I know I’m going digital. Having Animal Crossing and Pokemon as digital games on my 3DS is perfect, and I wish I had Mario Kart 7 digitally as well. So what are you going with? Let us know in the comments!
