Online Modes Detailed for Super Smash Bros.

Online is back in the latest Super Smash Bros. games, and it looks like improvements have been made on all fronts. Coming straight from Nintendo:

Online play: Both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of Super Smash Bros. will offer online multiplayer game play with other players on the same platform. Players with broadband Internet access can battle it out with anyone else who is online and also has the game.

When playing with random players online, two modes are available: “For Fun” and “For Glory.” In “For Glory,” only Final Destination stage variations are available. There are no platforms, elevated areas or items in this mode. It is a nice, clean battle between characters. In “For Fun,” all stages are picked randomly and all items and power-ups are available.
When playing with friends, full customization is available – players can set the rules, stages and items however they want.

Almost all the stages in both versions of the game will have a “Final Destination form,” an alternate form of each stage that is inspired by the relatively simple layout of the much-loved Final Destination stage.

A new ranking system known as Global Smash Power will help matchmaking online. Based on your scores outside of online multiplayer, the Global Smash Power will rank you among the many players battling across the world.

In addition, every player will now be represented by their Nintendo Network. This will help reinforce some of the rules and terms of service that players will have to agree with upon starting the online portion of the game. These rules of conduct will focus on players who abuse the following:

  • Starting and not playing
  • Relentless targeting of an individual
  • Repeated self-destructs
  • Frequent dropping
  • Cheats
  • Baseless reporting

I’m happy I can safely play more casually now. No need to worry about super hard-core matches with me ending up dead last. 😛

Well…there are like little kids and noobs who will probably play who don’t know how to play.

The only way you can like outscore 0 people…is by just standing there doing nothing or just jumping of the ledge on purpose right when you spawn.

3,213,617 million? Wouldn’t that be 3,213,671,000,000 (3,213.671 billion) in total? If so, good luck, as there’s only ~7,000,000,000 (~7 billion) people in the world. 😛

Are you trying to confuse me! When I say I’m gonna outscore more than 3 million people, i’m going to outscore 3 million people….plus it would be impossible for almost half of the human population to buy one game.

Will I be the only one who will play For Fun mode all the time? I just can’t stand to be on a Final Destination based stage the whole time!
