That’s right! As the title says, two New Super Mario Bros. 2 gameplay videos have been unveiled! If you’d be kind enough to look below, you’ll find both videos, each with an in-depth analysis of their content.

The video doesn’t seem like much at first. It’s seemingly recorded on the system, with the use of a camera of some sort. Though, we’re interested in that. We want content! Correct?

It starts with the New Super Mario Bros. 2 logo, and two of our best known protagonists, Mario and Luigi. Mario is soon thrown into what I presume is the first world. There doesn’t seem to be much different from what we’ve come to know and love from the Super Mario Bros. series of games, as our hero grabs some coins, nabs a mushroom, and stomps a Goomba. Though, this streak of similarities soon ends as the footage changes from one level to another. A golden ring sits suspended in the air, and Mario wastes no time jumping into it. All of the enemies in the area turn gold as a result, which seems to be a reoccurring theme in this game. Jumping on a Koopa, Mario picks up the golden shell it produces and throws it down the slope before him, using it to kill the golden Goombas ahead. In its trail, the shell leaves coins for Mario to pick up.

As the footage changes once more, we find Mario taking advantage of the Super Leaf. The water at the bottom of the screen is purple, which usually isn’t good. Perhaps poison? Anyways, not much different happens here. The good ‘ol red ring appears, and Mario goes on a hunt for the red rings it produces. He also kills a Wiggler. Throughout the rest of the video, you’ll find more coin opportunities, such as a ‘hat type’ golden block that produces coins as you proceed throughout the level until it wears off. A giant boo level is showcased at one point, and at another, you find Luigi running alongside Mario. Perhaps partners (AI or multiplayer)? We also see the Koopa Kids towards the end.

Onto the next.

If the flashy intro didn’t capture your attention, the features ahead will! We find ourselves in World 1-1 again, though things are different this time. Though, only slightly. Things are being pointed out. It’s clear that levels have a time limit, and they’re cut rather close. To get more time, you need to hit checkpoints that are placed along each level. Could this be one of the main assets to the game, or perhaps a mode where you race against the clock? Either way, we also see more ways to earn coins, such as golden items (special coins/mushroom) that add 50 coins each to your bank. When he finishes the level, it’s clear that if you hit the top of the flag pole, your coin total doubles!

Throughout the rest of the video, the race against the clock continues. We witness a water level (where you see the golden mushroom), and Mario making more use of the Super Leaf. At the very end, he kicks the butt of a certain purple Koopa.

EDIT: Double groundpound has also been confirmed. ((Thanks to AquaYoshi))
