Mario Party 9 – What about the Mii?

Mario Party 9 will be an exciting new entry into the Mario Party series, and I have high expectations for this new installment. It will be on Wii, but so far there hasn’t been mention of the existence of Mii characters being playable in any way at all. The Mii is a very important part of the Wii console as its name was emerged from the “Wii” trademark. So it’s only natural to ponder around with this particular question in mind: What about the Mii?

Yes, what about Mii, Satoru Iwata? (haha)

The Mii appeared in Mario Party 8 as playable only in the “Extra Mode” section of the game. The use of Mii was very minimal and downright underused. They didn’t really have much to do besides being able to play a few mini-games such as Moped Mayhem and Canyon Cruisers. The Mii in this game had so much potential even if it would have had an equivalent effect of simply adding another character into the roster.

Mii plays against Mario

So, what about Mario Party 9? There hasn’t been information regarding whether the Mii would even be used at all in any way with regards to game play. But how can it be used to the full extent? The answer is simple: make the Mii a playable character. If Wii Party had Miis, then there’s no reason why the 9th console installment of Mario Party shouldn’t include them since roughly the same people behind the success of Wii Party are indeed working on Mario Party 9. The Staff should have a pretty good idea of how to incorporate the Mii as an actual game play character along with the rest of the roster since they used models and code for Miis in that particular format previously. There is no excuse for not including the Mii because of developmental issues since the models should be a lot simpler than the rest of the characters. But, how would the Mii work out as a playable character?

"I had time to shine, but it wasn't enough. So are you inviting Mii to the party?"

That answer is easy to comprehend: just add it as if it were another character in the roster. Have the Mii playable in every mode the rest of the roster plays. If they are added, then the question converts to: how would they be voiced? Well, they didn’t have any sounds in Wii Party, so if they were to be included in the roster, then they most likely will remain mute. Unless of course they were to voice the Miis like it was done for both Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 7; however, I would prefer to have the voices more like how they sounded in Mario Kart Wii because at the very least, their voices were tolerable. If they had voices similar to how Mario Kart 7 had voiced them, then I would almost never use the Mii because I found those voices to be rather awkward and too “cute”. Maybe the voice works perfectly on a small sized Mii, but a taller Mii having a high pitched voice is cringingly annoying.

"Mii am very annoying! Even if Mii look like adult."

Perhaps the Mii won’t be making a return appearance since its spotlight fame in Wii Party, but I feel like it should (though not a must). It should join the roster to witness the real way to party, Mario style. What do you think? Should the Mii make an appearance in Mario Party 9? Or should it sit out in the side-lines watching Mario and friends party hard?
