Mario Party 9 has the largest number of spaces in the entire series. Some of the spaces seem to function differently than previous Mario Party games.

Green Space Nothing happens when you land on this space.
Lucky Space Leads you to a special route. Good things happen to you.
Unlucky Space Leads you to a special route. Bad things happen to you.
Spin Space Land on this space to start a roulette. Various effects happen.
Shuffle Space Land on this space to shuffle the captain turn order.
Free-For-All Mini-Game Space A Free-For-All Mini-Game will commence when landed on.
1-VS.-3 (or 1-VS.-2 or 1-VS.-1) Space A 1-VS.-3 (or 1-VS.-2 or 1-VS.-1) mini-game will commence when landed on.
Happening Space Land on this space to commence an event, depending on the stage you’re playing.
Bowser Space Land on this space to start a Bowser event. Various events occur.
Bowser Jr. Mini-Game Space This space triggers a Bowser Jr. Mini-Game.
Dash Space Land on this space to roll again. You will advance.
Back Space Land on this space to roll again. You will go backwards.
Captain Event Space A Captain Event will commence. Various events occur, depending on the stage you’re playing. You will always be forced to stop here, even if you have additional spaces to move on.
Boss Battle Space A Boss Battle will commence. You will always be forced to stop on this space, even if you still have additional spaces to move on.
Battle Mini-Game Space Starts a Battle Mini-Game when landed on. Hammer Bro. or Fire Bro. hosts the space; whoever appears is random.
1 Mini-Star Space You will earn 1 Mini-Star.
2 Mini-Stars Space You will earn 2 Mini-Stars.
3 Mini-Stars Space You will earn 3 Mini-Stars.
5 Mini-Stars Space You will earn 5 Mini-Stars.
3 Mini-Ztars Space You will earn 3 Mini-Ztars.
+2 Magma Space Raises the magma level by two levels; only on Magma Mine stage.
