just so you know, regionlocking could either be done on the OS side or the software side, so chances are that games out already would have to be re-released or patched and Nintendo would lose a lot of money if they did that for every game.

Especially if it's a hardware type deal like it was before discs. I could see them implementing something like that for the 3DS because it still uses carts.

Nintendo of America is aware of this.

Nintendo has no plans to remove region locking from our systems. By taking this approach, Nintendo is able to include parental controls and ensure compliance with regional standards and rating systems.

I highly doubt Nintendo would remove region-locking.

I don't mind that. The only thing I HATED about it is that Mario Tennis Open's online multiplayer doesn't go worldwide.

And as Vipsoccermaster said, Nintendo (of America) will not be removing the region lockout settings. I agree with him that it would never happen.

PS2 was fine when it was region locked because software like Swap Magic worked like a charm.

It's basically just another step to boot up the game.

Plus, there's always Homebrew.
