Ama hates anime so no wai.

Not hate, just not interested. Probably wouldn't start out with an anime board though (or any other subsection type board like that), but make it as people show interest.

And I really like ToM's organization, with a few tweaks (like child boards for site/forum probably won't be necessary, just put all suggestions, announcements & that in one board).

lol No thanks. Censoring shit aside, none of his forums have ever been all that stable. SMF and this site had/have a ton of downtime.

It'd be easiest to go with who I registered the domain with (Name Cheap) but I don't know if they're good or not. And when you try to google web hosts, you get a lot of those crappy articles that don't actually say anything.

I know of a few free hosts you could use. I've had a lot of experience in my time. I'm also knowledgeable in website hosting, and websites in general, so if you need help, hit me up with a PM or something.

Anyways, referring to an earlier question of yours, 500MB~1G should be good for a small forum. On FC, my forum AND website, we're half way through out 500MB limit.

(Mind you, that's Joey's hosting. I'm currently admin of two forums run on his hosting, and neither have had any problems. They run just fine.)

As for hosts, you have a variety of options.

Free:
Joey (500MB a month)
x10 Hosting (Wouldn't recommend it, but it works)('Unlimited' space. They suspend you for using too much...)
000webhost (Eh)(1500MB a month/$5 a month for pro hosting that gives Cpanel (Extremely recommended), and 'unlimited' space. Haven't tried it, so I know no cons.)
0000free (Haven't used)(1G, comes with Cpanel. You can get 2G, if you make 20 posts on their forum each month.)

That's not even the half of it. I recommend looking around yourself. Also, here's a site you can look at, where people actively review free hosts.

Link HERE

Now, I haven't tried any paid hosts, but I do know of some.

Paid:
Jumpline (Free 12 month trial, then about $7~$10 a month afterward, if I'm correct. 10G of space.)
IPowerWeb (Unlimited space, free domain, lots of E-mail accounts. NO Cpanel, though.)
Bluehost (Unlimited space, E-mails accounts, free domain, Cpanel included)
HostGator (Unlimited space, CPanel, $100 google adword credit)

Those, again, are just a few. I recommend looking yourself, if you aren't interested in any of those.

Also, when I used to look, I would look up reviews of hosts I thought would be good. It helped me a lot in finding which hosts were good, and which hosts weren't.

Thanks a lot. Before you posted this I found HostGator and so you just confirmed that's the one I'm gonna go with. I like that it has cPanel to easily set up SMF & it had good reviews & was reasonably priced. The $100 adwords credit could be useful too.

I'll probably purchase the hosting tomorrow, maybe set it up if I have enough time. I think I should be able to have it open by this weekend, maybe a little longer if I get into the design aspect.

Ok, so I have the domain (straightlegit.com) but not the hosting. I was going to do that tonight, but I just looked at my bank account & I can't afford it (I have about $400 to get me through the next month of not working, and if I do actually end up going to WI I feel like I might blow through a good bit of that). Its only $68 but I don't want to spend money on anything unnecessary right now.

But I'm gonna start getting all the other things set up for it (the forum theme, logo, a twitter, the membergroups, refine the board organization, etc.) That way as soon as I start working again, I can get the hosting paid for & the forum will be up right away.

So...

Any suggestions on a color scheme for the forum? Or anything else design related?

Hot pink/bright blue is my favorite color combo but most people don't appreciate it as much as I do =P

Reposting from NC...

I was kind of thinking something more bold =P But then again, I love bright, almost neon, colors.

I'm thinking the way to go is multiple themes though. One dark, one light, one bold, one neutral, whatever.

I've been playing around with a banner and found a general style I like:

stylesc.png

#1. The words are connected by the T & L. Inner shadow.
#2. Words connected by the H & L. Outer glow.
#3. Words connected by the H & L. Plain.

None of these color schemes are a sure thing, I was just messing around trying out various things. I think I personally like the last 2 best. Outer glow looks cool imo (would need slight modifications because it looks pixely here) but only on a dark background.

Might even do different logos for each theme. So the bold theme would have a more decorative font, the neutral theme might use a serif font, etc.

This is mostly just a note so I remember these themes but feel free to look through them & tell me which you like/don't like.

Citiez
Micolo
La Gusta
Surf & Turf
Inferno
Zone99
DSv4
Cargo
OverViewLight
OverView
Noize

Pretty sure they're all easily customizable so some of these I would definitely modify first but overall I'm liking several of these. I'm gonna take another look at my list of tumblr themes and compare, try to find 2 that are similar.

@Matt: Like I said, these aren't set combinations, I was just trying different things. So there's no reason we couldn't do the inner shadows on the H & L ones or the glow on a black & blue logo, etc.

Right now I'm debating whether we should have a set color scheme or switch it up a lot. Obviously the forum/site will need an identity but I think you can play around with logos/colors to a point without it seeming like a totally different site.

In reality we could have pretty much all those themes available simply because the site they're on doesn't allow single purchases. You pay for a 3 month (or more) subscription & get to download as many as you want & even after it runs out you can still use them (just don't get support or updates anymore).

Lemme copy & paste some stuff I put on NC...

[quote author=Amatatomba]
Yeah, I like those ones too. My main concern with the themes is to make the forum & eventual site designs cohesive. Not identical (which I guess would be ideal, but isn't necessary if they're close enough).

Here's the list of tumblr themes I like. They're all premium themes (meaning paid) but I really think that will be the best option for the blog because the premium themes offer so much more customization than the free ones. Most of these would be tweaked a lot (for example, the Ascender theme preview has it so the # of columns adjusts to browser size, but if we used that it would be a fixed 2 or 3 column design). So don't take these simply at face value, the style is what matters most, columns, colors, fonts, etc. can be changed.

Transcender
Ascender
Nova
Atlantic Noir
MARS
Backburner

Oddly enough all of these are designed by the same guy, but he really does have the best stuff on tumblr. Personally, my favorites are Transcender & Nova. I'm heavily leaning towards those. Mars was a runner up.

I think Transcender for tumblr and either Micolo, laGusta or Overview for SMF would go together really well. They all have a similar design features & could be tweaked to look even more similar. Didn't really have a chance to look at themes for Nova yet, but I do really like that theme.

Like I said though, for SMF, we could have several themes from the list I posted because you purchase access to all the themes, not themes themselves. Tumblr you purchase the individual theme though.

Like I said over on NC, we could definitely do a variety of themes (dark, light, bold, neutral, etc.). For a main theme though I'm thinking something dark with a bright accent color. So it wouldn't be anything really bright, like a bright yellow background or whatever.

And right now bright blue is my favorite accent color for the main theme, but I'm open to other suggestions (but don't just say orange or whatever, be specific =P).

If TT does some kind of "ManylPartyForum 2", would you guys still be interested in this?

He's planning something for Saturday & chances are its a forum, most likely MPF2. Just wondering because I don't want to waste money on hosting & stuff if everyone is gonna flock to that. I'm not 100% sure that's what he's planning though, all he keeps saying is how its codename phoenix & he's "rising from the ashes" and it's happening Saturday and everyone should be excited lol

Guess I should have never let him know about my plans to make a forum lol.
