How important are graphics to you in games?

Title. And I'm not just talking about whether it's HD or not, so don't go and say you don't care at all bc I'm pretty sure you wouldn't play MK8 if it looked like Pong.

I'd say they're probably the third most important thing in gaming for me. Right below story and gameplay. Nothing better than looking out on a massive world in games like NV or XC3D. Which are both, admittedly, not that good quality-wise  but still manage to look pretty vivid. And I've always loved games like Borderlands (screw Burch for ruining 2 / TPS) and Bastion which have unique art style.

Even in NES games I mostly like them because of the 'retro' feel of the 8bit graphics. IE, SMB and FF 1. Though I can't stand ancient 3D (like, back before Half-Life and all that) because it's always blocky and pixelated.

For me, graphics can determine a lot. Usually, the games with better quality are better, but not always. I enjoy basic and enjoyable graphics. I always enjoy looking at the artwork of the newer characters, because it makes the game feel more futuristic, or is that just me? :p

I just don't enjoy games with BAD quality. Take MKWii for example. It doesn't have stunning quality, but it's good. I think for a 2008 game, it's actually pretty good. Now take MP10. Despite it having exceptional graphics, the game itself wasn't superior. So my answer is: it depends on the game.

I'm more on aesthetic and visuals than the actual graphics. Many games today have good graphics, but to they utilize it? MP10, which Bowser used, is a very good example. The graphic as he stated were "exceptional" but I found a lot of the areas and parts of the game visually bland. And as Tyler said, graphics help immerse you into the game. Good graphics and great visuals together are very important to a game imo.
