Media mogul Ted Turner is the largest individual landowner in the United States.
Until 2012, Ted Turner's 2.1 million acres was the largest landholding, but now his friend and another media mogul John Malone with 2.2 million acres is the largest. The land holdings in America have become so large that the new unit of measurement is known as a "Rhode Island," and each of these guys owns about three "Rhode Islands."
The first flight of Flyer I at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, in 1903 was 120 feet in length; the wingspan of a 747 is 196 feet. It was a short flight, but for Orville, legroom was not a problem.
