No. Not that I don't like it, I just don't want to force you into buying something you're really not interested in or good at it like Splatoon(no offence). You shouldn't give in to peer pressure in situations like this. Just cause everyone has it doesn't mean you should. Stick to something you're good at, like Mario. If anything, if you want to explore other Nintendo franchises, try Kirby. It's still a platformer, just with enough differences to be 'different'. Get Kirby Triple Deluxe, and maybe work your way through other games to the point where you're ready to enjoy smash.
But I would recommend Smash (key word: would), it's lots of fun imo.
