Mario Tennis Aces Announced

Mario Tennis Aces was just announced for the Nintendo Switch during today’s Nintendo Direct Mini.

The latest entry in the Mario Tennis series will include a Story Mode, something that has been missing since the Game Boy Advance iteration. Players will play through different missions along with the return of boss battles.

With just a few glimpses it has already surpassed the content of Ultra Smash. Enjoy the reveal in the Nintendo Direct Mini video below!

This was the best thing for me personally from that Direct. We still need to see more to be sure… BUT, this looks to a true return to quality for Mario Tennis.(May Party be so blessed next)

This new Switch era is reviving my Mario fan heart. I am anxious and actually excited again about Mario spin-offs!

I noticed they’re actually reusing assets from Ultra Smash, hence how they can build upon Ultra Smash by investing time on other parts of the game. Also good that the court looks very distinct from Ultra Smash. Also interesting that they have tennis garb, the last time that happened was Mario’s Tennis on Virtual Boy!

I wonder what those gauges are for. It couldn’t possibly be a return of Power Shots, right? Great to see Petey Piranha “competing” in tennis again, though if only he could be playable as well. I also noticed in the audience that they added Paragoombas, Hammer Bros, Penguins, and Spikes, while no Boos appear – this may indicate Koopa Troopa and Shy Guy will not be playable again. Hopefully the roster also isn’t as disappointingly shallow as in Ultra Smash.

Honestly I’m expecting the story mode to be either
    A. It’s just gonna be a story mode where you fight this opponent, do this mini game, and fight this boss rinse and repeat and nothing special about it.
    B. It will have some interesting ideas and I heard the earlier handheld games even had like RPG elements so it would be cool to see interesting stuff like that.

Why does nobody talks about the new outfits for all the characters and not just the princesses? I find this awesome! Also, I hope the Ultra Smash court isn’t the only court this time and we’ll get special attacks back!

I hope they bring back the Mario Kart Item Mechanic Mode from Mario Power Tennis. They did add it in Ultra Smash but it was only limited to Mega Mushrooms which I didn’t like. I forgot how the mode was called. Was it “Item Battle” or something like that? Also i hope we get better stage mechanics and hope Nintendo finally thinks out of the box.

This looks very promising! Never been too much of a fan of tennis games but I may give this one a try.
