I hope I’m not the only one who is legit hyped for this game. Who’s with me?

    • TheMarioMario64

It looks pretty damn good. Yet there is so much hate for this. Hell, at this point the Paper Mario fan base is even worse than the Sonic fan base based on what I’ve seen on YouTube, and YouTube comments.

      • Greninjario

All the hate makes me depressed 🙁

      • MagiKooper

That’s debatable I mean sure we’ve got Color Splash and Sticker Star, but they’ve got 06 and Sonic Boom………and Unleashed……..and Lost World.

Trust me even with Color Splash, we’re still way off from Sonic’s point.

        • TheMarioMario64

I mean the fan base is worse; not the games.

          • MagiKooper

Yeah, still no. Paper Mario fanbase is still going strong, while Sonic’s is just clinging on to nostaglia.

          • TheMarioMario64

Not even 5 minutes after the Nintendo direct where Color Splash was announced, people were already making petitions to cancel the game, delay the game to make it more like the first two, or to cancel it and make TTYD HD.

          • MagiKooper

What do you think the Sonic Fanbase was doing when the saw the trailer for Sonic Boom.

        • RafalRib

Unleashed is a good game and so is Lost World >:(

          • MagiKooper

Lost World is a Super Mario Galaxy rip-off with wacky controls , I mean even the boss before the final boss is ripped from Mario!

UnLeashed…..started out good…….than it got dumb.

  • RafalRib

I dont have a Wii U but if i had, i’d pick this game right up 😛
Now that the Koopalings are confirmed on it

    • MagiKooper

Yet, they seem to be falsely portrayed. -____-

  • Luigiguy567

Yeah… I’m not buying this game. The gameplay, battle system, level structure, characters, ect. all scream Sticker Star. I personally didn’t like Sticker Star, so I’m not shelling out $60 (US) to buy a game that plays almost identically to it.

  • MagiKooper

Ok so i’m just say whats on mostly everyone’s mind. This game has failed.

Lets review – The game looks INCREDIBLE, every area is popping out with beauty and paper glory, and even Mario himself looks more Paper than before. The story or at least the first minute of it is actually interesting and kinda dark…….seeing that Shy Guy the color and life out of Toad, just gave me chills. But now here comes the salt…

It’s basically Sticker Star all over again, the characters are the same, all Toads and all Bowser baddies, no original or unique characters at all……unless you count the bucket, but lets face it, he’s basically the Kersti of this game, even the Koopalings who have finally joined the Paper universe seem to be just paper thin copies of their real selves. Morton is NOT a barbaric idiot!

As far as battle style…..same as Sticker Star…..even the enemy cards which i’ll admit are kinda interesting and the closet thing we have to partners in this game, and if there is a MagiKoopa one i’ll freak out, it’s still tedious and pointless. There’s not Battle XP or Level System, so it’s NOT an RPG, battles only produce coins. No Paper Luigi, no Paper Kamek, nothing of interest in story, character or interest.

Nintendo…..please listen to Gamexplain’s question and the fans pleads and cries, remaster Thousand Year Door for the NX/WiiU and go back to the original Paper Mario format. Please learn from your mistakes for the sake of Paper Mario NX…..no…..for the sake of the entire Paper Mario series.

    • Luigiguy567

You know what’s better than learning from your mistakes and listening to your fans or doing it better the second time?

Doing the same damn thing to earn some quick bucks before the Wii U eventually dies. *Looks at this game, Mario Party 10, and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash*

  • Waluigifan32

This looks a bit better then Sticker Star. In Sticker Star you had to jump back in already completed levels to solve mysteries and puzzles with stickers that you missed or go back to paste door stickers for new special stickers and things. That doesn’t seem to be the case here. The graphics look damn amazing. Imo the game looks fine. I’m still not sure if i’m gonna get it but I seem to prefer watching this then watching gameplay of Sticker Star or playing it. Which is a good thing. The main thing here is that people don’t like drastically changes. We already had 3 Paper Mario Games with the same battle mechanic starting from Paper Mario 64 up to Super Paper Mario.

    • Greninjario

As someone who actually enjoyed Sticker Star, I think it will be great. This game looks good. Plus I saw footage showing that there are no actual numbered worlds. Every paint star leads you somewhere else, and each level can have more than 1 paint star. So what if the story isn’t as good? A game can be great without it, Paper Mario or not. Huey looks like a funny character, and for me, Koopalings = Insta-buy! Also, dare I say it, I enjoy this battle system more than the original. I’ve played Paper Mario 64 and battles were always tedious and annoying for me ’cause I couldn’t time my blocks right, and it would take forever to level up, and you could only choose to level up one thing, where in the M&L series, everything is upgraded when leveling up. This new battle system is fun, has a wide variety of attacks, some with hilarious animations like the fan, and has a strategy to it. (Also it’s easier to block and heal.) If you want a true RPG, then go play Mario & Luigi, because that a good RPG series. So no, this isn’t the death of Paper Mario as people say, it is a new chapter in its ongoing saga. I love the Paper Mario series for what it is now. GET OVER IT HATERS!!!!!! For me, THE HYPE IS REEEEEEAAAALLLLL!!!!

      • Luigiguy567

Hey man, glad you found joy in something most others couldn’t. I know Paper Mario may never return to the old formula, but I’m glad there are people out there who are more open and do enjoy this new direction.

As for me, I’ll just stick to the first two games and the Mario & Luigi series and avoid this game and Sticker Star like the plague.

        • Greninjario

That’s fine by me, you’re entitled to your own opinion, just… don’t call it a plague.

          • Luigiguy567

Sorry about that. Every one has their own opinion, but I just like to take jabs at Sticker Star sometimes. Didn’t mean to offend you.

        • MagiKooper

Yeah!!! M&L Series!!! MAY IT NEVER BECOME STICKER STAR!!!!

In this interview, the developers of Color Splash state they’re considering about remastering one of the first two Paper Mario’s, which I think would definitely please the old fans for awhile.

          • MagiKooper

Yeah I watched it, I really hope it’s Thousand Year Door, but I really would love to see the original Paper Mario in Color Splash style……I mean in graphics of course.

  • E.Gadd

I didn’t expect to like what I saw of this game but I do.

I mean TTYD is my favorite Mario game, so I expected to be furious or something looking at another Sticker Star style game in the series… but I’m not even slightly upset. I’m kinda looking forward to trying this game. :/

I mean, nothing about this comes off as a rush job like so many of the other Mario Spin-offs this gen have. The frustration seems tied more to brand expectations than quality this time.

This game doesn’t look bad at all. It also doesn’t look like classic Paper Mario.

  • BossBlitz

Huey looks like a copy and paste Kersti, and I wish they made more original characters and bosses like Crump and Grubba to go alongside the Koopalings (because Ludwig is the best). I also wish the Toads looked morning unique on the cailber of Toodles and the pirate ship Toads. I wonder if we’ll see other Mario species as NPCs. I’m a litte fine with the battle system, but you press A for to time anything, which is lame compared to what the badges had to offer in 64 and TTYD. “Things” are also really lame compared to badges and the fact that you must have the specific thing to beat the bosses easily (like how they used tye fire extinguisher to nerf Morton). It looks better than SS, but I’d play TTYD over this anyday.

    • Mister Sushi

Not really, Huey seems quite chill and cool while Kersti was more proper and a bit quirky.

      • Greninjario

But can get riled up at times. Did you see the treehouse footage? He called out that Toad for cheating twice! LOL

  • Luigiguy567

I just noticed this, but I think each Koopaling guards a Big Paint Star based on the respective colors of their wands from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

Morton Koopa Jr. – Red Big Paint Star (For example, Morton’s wand is Red in both this game and NSMB Wii)
Larry Koopa – Orange Big Paint Star
Iggy Koopa – Yellow Big Paint Star
Lemmy Koopa – Green Big Paint Star
Ludwig Von Koopa – Blue Big Paint Star
Wendy O. Koopa – Purple Big Paint Star
Roy Koopa – Black Big Paint Star…?

OK, I don’t think there’s a Black Paint Star, since Mario doesn’t paint with black in the game, nor does it have a spot in the fountain in the town square. However, I think Roy might actually be the penultimate (meaning second-to-last) boss before you fight Bowser in his castle.

    • XT

      Your forgetting the color White

      • Luigiguy567

None of the Koopalings have white wands.
