One of the most notable additions to Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is the return of Dixie Kong, a third Kong joining Diddy Kong and Donkey Kong on their latest adventure. At the same time of the game’s announcement, a mention of a fourth character was made, yet we still have no indication as to who this character might be. Take a look at some our guesses below!
Kiddy Kong was playable alongside Dixie Kong in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble!, making him the only playable character from a past Donkey Kong Country title to not return in a future installment. Despite his age, Kiddy Kong is known for his incredible strength, giving him a special attribute that makes him a worthy option for the fourth character. Chunky Kong is a similar choice, but we’d place our bets on Kiddy Kong simply for his past involvement in the series.
Funky Kong has yet to appear as a playable character in one of the main Donkey Kong titles, yet he has had a recurring role in most of the Donkey Kong games. Outside of being a fan favorite, Funky Kong has also appeared as a playable character in both Mario Kart Wii and Super Mario Sluggers, pushing him further in a chance to take the fourth spot in Tropical Freeze. What exactly can Funky Kong do? We don’t really know, but that surfboard of his could come into play somehow. Perhaps you could use Funky and his surfboard to ride across normally dangerous terrains, or use the surfboard as a shield?
The chances are low, but Tiny Kong is another female character that could work with the current trio in Tropical Freeze. The problem with Tiny is that her main ability is her gliding ponytails, essentially making her a copy of Dixie Kong. In Donkey Kong 64, Tiny was able to shrink in size, but this ability might not work as well in a 2D side-scroller, especially since Tiny would also have Donkey Kong to worry about. Since we are on the topic of female Kongs, it wouldn’t hurt to mention Candy Kong. Candy has yet to show off any kind of special ability, or any playable appearances, so her chances are not the highest. Although, this would be a great opportunity to give the girl some kind of meaning outside running shops and letting players save their game.
The greatest thing going for Lanky Kong are his long and lanky arms. They are able to reach farther, and in game like Donkey Kong 64, run much faster as well. Speed is definitely an ability that could easily come into play in Tropical Freeze, and you can also imagine that climbing would be improved with Lanky, right along with the new swimming ability that all Kongs will be capable of.
He’s old, but that it doesn’t mean he can’t fight! Cranky Kong has been around for almost as long as Donkey Kong, making him a fair character to add to the mix. We’re not exactly sure what Cranky would bring to the table, but perhaps that cane could prove useful. Maybe players use the cane to vault over large gaps, or perhaps it’s needed to activate or destroy certain obstacles. Either way, we’d love to see Cranky Kong playable! You also have the similar Wrinkly Kong that could take a stab at the fourth spot, or simply take Cranky’s spot in the shops!
