UPDATE 2 : Nintendo of America has confirmed that the Mario game is in fact the New Super Mario Bros. Mii demo shown at E3 last year. NOA issued the following statement:
“In a recent interview, Mr. Miyamoto confirmed that a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Wii U system will be shown at this year’s E3 Expo. This is based on the Mario experience that was demonstrated at last year’s E3 Expo. We’ll have more to announce about our plans for the E3 Expo at a later date.”
UPDATE: Nintendo has confirmed that a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Wii U will be announced this coming June at Nintendo’s E3 2012 press conference. The report also adds that more information will be released soon.
ORIGINAL STORY: During his trip to visit the Louvre Museum in Paris, Miyamoto took the time to sit down with Spanish magazine elmundo.es. Throughout the interview, Miyamoto dropped some small tidbits that might interest the large community of Mario fans. Coming from a NeoGAF post:
- He is working in several small but important projects. Right now he is very focused on Pikmin 3 and Luigi’s Mansion 2
- Nintendo will show a new Super Mario game for the Wii U at E3. Combining the TV screen with the tablet screen.
- He wants to make something with the Wii Music IP.
So what could this mean? This is clearly separate from the already confirmed 2D Mario side-scroller for the 3DS that will also be shown at E3. Should we expect another entry into the Galaxy series or maybe an entire new direction for the platforming Mario games? Sound off in the comments and let us know what you think!
