As of today, Mario Party 9 has been on store shelves for an entire month in the United States. NPD has released sale figures for the month of March, ranking Mario Party 9 below some of the major releases of the month, but still making it into the top 10. The top 10 selling games of March of 2012 are:

  1. Mass Effect 3 (360, PS3, PC)
  2. Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City (360, PS3)
  3. MLB 12: The Show (PS3, Vita)
  4. NBA 2K12 (360, PS3, Wii, PSP, PC, PS2)
  5. SSX (360, PS3)
  6. Street Fighter x Tekken (360, PS3)
  7. Mario Party 9 (Wii)
  8. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (360, PS3, Wii, PC)
  9. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations (360, PS3)
  10. Major League Baseball 2K12 (360, PS3, Wii, NDS, PSP, PC, PS2)

Ranking seventh among some of the biggest releases of the year, Mario Party 9 managed to sell a total of 230,000 units in the United States in the first month of release. In comparison, Mario Party 8 managed to sell 550,000 units in the United States in its first month and ranked second in the NPD top 10, just after Pokemon Diamond. Please note that Mario Party 8 launched in a period of Nintendo dominance and a barren release schedule.
